These stories, passed down from generation to generation, portray the exploits of three women who spent time at the magnificent edifice over the years. Davis Creek and the Blackwater River are west and south of portions of Sweet Springs. Platted as Brownsville in 1838 and renamed Sweet Springs in 1887, Sweet Springs is the only city in Salt Pond Township. The first account offers a glimpse into the time when “Old Sweet” operated as a luxurious resort for the rich and famous in the mid-1880s, the second storyline follows the chronicles of a young mother, who was a patient when the resort was renovated into a tuberculosis sanatorium, and the third tale is an amusing account about the little hamlet when it was the Andrew Rowan Memorial Home and provided a delightful place for elderly folks to live out their final days. Sweet Springs, located in Saline County in west central Missouri, is the third largest city in Saline County.
